After finishing high school, the German soprano, Monika Frimmer, went on to study at the State College of Music and Theatre in Hannover, where she graduated with distinction as an opera and concert singer. In 1980 she was a prize-winner in the West German National Singing Competition in Berlin; she attended master-classes and worked with Birgit Nilsson, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Hermann Winkler and Jörg Demus.
From 1980 until 1993 Monika Frimmer was engaged at the Hannover State Opera as a lyrical soprano. She left the company to work as a freelance singer in Hannover, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Bonn. She performs all over the world in concerts, opera and oratorio and is much in demand at the most prestigious festivals. As an oratorio and Lied singer, she has appeared at the major festivals in Europe, Israel, the USA, Japan and South America.
Monika Frimmer began to specialize in Baroque music early in her career, and she has worked together with a variety of well-known conductors (e.g. Ton Koopman, Philippe Herreweghe, Reinhard Goebel, Hermann Max) and ensembles. But her repertoire also takes in the Classical and Romantic periods, as well as contemporary opera and chamber music. She collaborates regularly with the Trio di Clarone and the Ensemble Incanto; song recitals with the pianist Liese Klahn form a major element of her work. She has also taken part in many different radio and TV productions (on German and European stations) and gramophone recordings. |
