The German soprano, Jutta Maria Fries, studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Bochum with Professor Carl-Heinz Müller, receiving in 1999 her diploma as an opera singer and finishing the concert exams in 2003. She had further studies and master-classes with Professor Helmut Kretschmar in Detmold, Ursula Buckel in Genf and Krisztina Láki in Vienna. In 1999 she was scholarship holder of the Richard-Wagner-Stiftung.
Jutta Maria Fries was engaged in 2002-2003 season at the Theater Hof (Gräfin Zedlau in Wiener Blut), in 2003 at the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig (Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus), and since August 2003 at the Landestheater Detmold. She appeared as a guest in 2003-2004 at the Musikalische Komödie, in 2004 at the Herrenhauser Festwochen, Hannover (Donna Anna in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni). Other important engagement was in 1999-2000 co-operation during the European premiere of The ghosts of Versailles by John Corigliano at the Niedersächsischen Staatstheater Hannover.
Jutta Maria Fries' major roles include, among other thing, Gräfin Zedlau in Johann Strauss' Wiener Blut, Rosalinde in Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus, Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Lisa in Franz Lehár's Das Land des Lächelns, Donna Clara in Alexander Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg, and Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel. Recently she could be heard as Marie in B. Smetana's Die verkaufte Braut, Fiametta in Franz von Suppé's Boccaccio, and Frau Fluth in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Otto Nicolai. |
