The Flenburger Bach-Chor consistes ov 120 singers who comes from Flkensburg and far beyond the the limits of the city. The choir was founded in 1906 and aloing its history has perfprmed many important works of the choral literature. Its repertoire includes all the major choral works and numerous cantatas of J.S. Bach and, among others, George Frideric Handel's Messias and Saul, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, L.v. Beethoven's Missa solemnis, Johannes Brahms' Deutsches Requiem, C. Franck's Les Béatitudes, A. Dvořák's Requiem and Stabat mater, Edward Elgar's The dream of Gerontius, Igor Stravinsky's Psalmensinfonie, L. Janáček's Glagolitische Messe, Franz Schmidt's Buch mit 7 Siegeln, Benjamin Britten's War-Requiem, Arnold Schoenberg's Ein Überlebender aus Warschau and O. Messiaen's Trois petites liturgies.
The Flenburger Bach-Chor has been heard in many radio productions, with a-cappella music, J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) broadcast live from Felnsburg's St. Marienkirche.
Regularly, the Flenburger Bach-Chor performs at St. Marienkirche cantatas by J.S. Bach on Sundays according the Liturgy. Outside the choir toured in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy. In Germany, the choir has appeard on several occasions in various festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. |
