The German baritone, Christoph Erpenbeck, began his singing studies at the Hochschule of his home-town. In 1983, he began to study with Ingeborg Reichelt at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf, where he got also lessons from Kurt Moll and Udo Holdorf. In 1986, he won the first prize for singing at the Hogeschoolwedstrijd and in the same year he got a scholarship of Richard-Wagner-Stiftung.
From 1987 to 1996 Christoph Erpenbeck had his first engagement at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg, and then next in Bielefeld. Since 1998 he has been member of the ensemble of the Theatre Krefeld Mönchengladbach. He sang Don Giovanni, the role of Schulmeister in Scherz, Satire, Ironie und tiefere Bedeutung and as Eugen Onegin in the opera of the same name. In the 2002-2003 season he had his debut as Macbeth. Moreover he also sang Vater in Hänsel und Gretel, en Escamillo in Carmen.
Important opera performances in Christoph Erpenbeck's career: Reimar von Zweter in Tannhäuser (Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, May 1995), Miller in Luisa Miller by Verdi (Theater Krefeld, January 2002), Macbeth in Macbeth by Verdi (Theater Krefeld, February-March 2003), Escamillo in Carmen by Georges Bizet (Theater Mönchengladbach, 2003-2004. In the 2004-2005 season 05 he sang as Wolfram von Essenbach in Tannhäuser, Giorgio Germon in La Traviata, and as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte.
Beside his extensive opera repertoire, Christoph Erpenbeck is also active as Lieder and oratorio singer - in his homeland and abroad. |
