The Bach-Ensemble of the EuropaChorAkademie (= ECA) was founded in 1986 by Professor Joshard Daus. Under his artistic leadership the ensemble has won an excellent reputation in concert halls in Germany and abroad. Highlights among their performances include a choreographed version of Joseph Haydn’s Creation in co-operation with the Zürich Opera Ballet, J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232) with the Münchner Philharmoniker (Munich Philharmonic Orchestra) under Sergiu Celibidache at the 65th International Bach Festival in Munich, the opening of the International Choir Festival in Riga in 1993, and the production of Mendelssohn’s oratorio Paulus with the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden & Freiburg. In spring 1999 they made a recording of J.S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) during a concert tour of through Spain and Germany, performances which can now be added to the list of highlights.
The ECA’s work with important artists (including Francisco Araiza and Edith Mathis), orchestras (for example the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden & Freiburg, Münchner Symphoniker, Dresdner Philharmonic Orchestra), and conductors, including Sergiu Celibidache, Sylvain Cambreling and Michael Gielen) speaks for the excellence of this choir. The ensemble appears regularly a concert series at the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Philharmonie in Gasteig in Munich and at many more important concert halls.
The Orchestra of the Bach Ensemble of the ECA is made up of musicians bound to Joshard Daus by a continuing intensive collaboration: in the string section the co-operation between experienced musicians and young newcomers is ensured and the wind soloists come from various radio and opera orchestras in Germany. Together the musicians form a homogeneous, flexible and expressive team.
The Bach Ensemble is the German section of the ECA, which Joshard Daus brought into being for the purpose of gathering talented young people from all over Europe to work on and perform choral music in cities with music academies. Other highlights include concert tour of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 (December 1998) and the American premiere of A.B. Zimmermann’s Requiem for a Young Poet in April 1999 in New York’s Carnegie Hall with the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden & Freiburg under the baton of Michael Gielen.
The ECA divides its work into projects to better achieve its goals, one of which is education. As well as concert tours, academies and master courses play an important part in its activities. In its work the ECA provides a forum for an artistic encounter between nations and thus contributes to the cultural growth between European nations. |
