The English tenor, Joseph Doody, studied at Edinburgh University (Bachelor of Music degree, 2004-2008) and the Royal College of Music (Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance, studies with tenor Timothy Evans-Jones, 2013-2015), supported by The Kathleen Trust, The Hope Scott Trust, and the Mario Lanza Foundation. In September 2016 he begins work as a Young Artist at the National Opera Studio in London.
On stage Joseph Doody has performed the title roles in Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten and The Rake’s Progress by Igor Stravinsky, as well as Jupiter in Semele by George Frideric Handel, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville by Rossini, Basilio in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (Regent Opera's UK tour), Damon in Acis and Galatea, and Pylade in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride.
Recent concert performances include J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245) with Choir of Somerville College, Oxford & Musicians of the Dreaming Spires conducted by David Crown (June 2013), B. Britten’s Serenade for Tenor Horn and Strings with Skipton Camerata, G.F. Handel’s Messiah at the Foundling Museum, Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Dunedin Consort, Charpentier's Te Deum with the Armonico Consort, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh, and J.S. Bach’s cantatas with the Royal College of Music Baroque Orchestra under Ashley Solomon, and W.A. Mozart's Requiem at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Joseph Doody was tenor soloist in St Magnus Festival Chorus (2009-2011); and he has sung with groups including Dunedin Consort (Director: John Butt; 2009-2012), Cappella Nova (2011-2012), Armonico Consort, (Director: Christopher Monks) and Britten Sinfonia Voices, at venues all over the UK and abroad.
Upcoming projects include Charles Gounod's St Cecilia' Mass with the Malcolm Sargent Festival Choir, Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Leamington Spa, Conte Almaviva Il Barbiere di Siviglia on tour with Pop-Up Opera, and Ernesto in Don Pasquale at the Rye Arts Festival. |
