The American mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal's singing has been praised for its "exquisite vocal color...matched by musical sensitivity." She made her Lincoln Center debut under world-renowned conductor William Christie, singing Messiah with the Handel and Haydn Society at Avery Fisher Hall. She has also sung under renowned conductors Christopher Hogwood, Paul McCreesh, Bernard Labadie and Roger Norrington, and has toured Japan as a soloist with the Tokyo Oratorio Society. Other ensembles which have presented Pamela Dellal include Boston Baroque, the Boston Early Music Festival, Aston Magna, the Dallas Bach Society, the National Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Pamela Dellal has received critical acclaim for performances of George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and the c-minor Mass, and J.S. Bach's St. Matthew (BWV 244) and St. John Passions (BWV 245). Her operatic roles include Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così Fan Tutte, Erika in Samuel Barber's Vanessa and Lucretia in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia. She has worked with Prism Opera Company, Opera Aperta, Ocean State Lyric Opera, the New Boston Theatre Project, and the Opera Company of Boston, and appeared in concert in major cities in Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan.
A noted recitalist, Pamela Dellal has been featured in concert performances throughout the Northeast USA. As a member and Acting Director of Sequentia's women's ensemble Vox Feminae, Pamela Dellal has toured three continents and made numerous recordings of the music of Hildegard von Bingen, including the pivotal role of "Anima" in the production of Ordo Virtutum and solo work on the Grammy-nominated "Canticles of Ecstasy." She is a founding member of Favella Lyrica, an ensemble that performs music for two voices from the 17th and 18th centuries, which has been featured on the BankBoston Celebrity Series and the BEMF Concert Series. She is also a member of the eight-voice Cambridge Bach Ensemble (Director: Scott Metcalfe), and a frequent guest artist with the Musicians of the Old Post Road.
Pamela Dellal has been alto soloist in the renowned Emmanuel Music: Bach Cantata Series since 1984, having performed over 150 Bach cantatas. Her repertoire encompasses an astounding range: from twelfth-century monody, through Renaissance lute songs, Baroque cantatas and oratorios, 18th-20th century art songs and opera, and premieres of works by contemporary composers such as Alan Fletcher, Scott Wheeler, Ruth Lomon, Edward Cohen and others.
