De Witt Academy (= DWA) is a foundation that unites three choirs:
DeWitt Academy: This project choir has existed since 2002. DWA mainly focuses on music from the Baroque period.
De Witt Consort: This is a selection of singers and instrumentalists from DWA who perform solo cantatas and instrumental works.
De Witt Close Harmony: This double quartet was created during the 2020 Corona crisis. DWHC focuses on modern/close harmony music.
The De Witt Academy consists of trained singers, all of whom have extensive choral experience. The line-up depends on the music to be performed. They have an average of two projects every year, in the autumn and in the spring. The concert in the spring is traditionally a Passion Concert on Holy Saturday at the Remonstrantse Kerk. The autumn concerts are at varying locations in and around Dordrecht. The choir rehearses per project an average of 8 times on Monday evenings plus once on Saturdays.
In 2002, Yvonne Peters took the initiative to perform Actus Tragicus (BWV 106) by J.S. Bach during the service on Good Friday with eight singers and a number of instrumentalists. The church council of the Remonstrantse Gemeente in Dordrecht supported this initiative and the first implementation by the De Witt Academy became a fact. |
