The English choral director, impresario, organist, pianist and harpsichordist, Daniel Robert Cushing, graduated from Bath Spa University with Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons) in Music and Master of Arts degre in Music. He studied piano under the distinguished Maria Angel Garcia and Organ with Shean Bowers and Dr Emma Gibbins. Awarded the Jennifer Skellett Scholarship he specialised in choral direction under Francis Faux and has taken masterclasses with Eleanor Núñez.
Daniel Robert Cushing is an expressive and articulate choral conductor who is known for his directing of evocative and distinctive performances. He has conducted and accompanied a number of prestigious performances in prominent venues across South Wales and the South West of England including Bath Abbey, St. Mary's Painswick, Wiltshire Music Centre and at the Cathedrals of Wells, Bristol, Brecon, Newport, Clifton and Truro. As an early music enthusiast he provides the harpsichord and organ continuo for the Bath based ensemble Bladud Baroque Trio. He is Musical Director of The Carolean Consort and Georgian Festival Chorale.
In 2015, Daniel Robert Cushing won Caerphilly County’s Young Composer of the Year and has gained experience conducting a wide range of repertoire. His career has developed rapidly and he is in high demand. He is a freelance organist regularly giving solo performances across the South West of England and South Wales. As an early music enthusiast he provides the harpsichord and organ continuo for Bladud Baroque Trio. In 2019 he was invited to the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod as an official accompanist. He is also accompanist to the Bath Celebration Choir.
Daniel Robert Cushing is the founder and director of his Wiltshire based chamber choir - Dolce Singers (since 2020). He is the Musical Director of Somerset Choral Society (since 2019), Somer Valley Singers and accompanies/conducts his Bath based duo Newton Park Singers. He has been Chorus Master for Corsley Festival choir, has performed as an official accompanist for the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod and was Musical Director of The Octet, a finely judged semi-professional chamber choir that toured the UK.
Daniel Robert Cushing has been Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Margaret’s Church, Blackwood; Organist at Central Methodist Church, Blackwood; has also been an organist at Christ Church, Bath; and Musical Director of The Chamber Singers and Blackwood United Churches Choir. He has taken many choirs on tour to perform in prestigious places such as Clifton, Brecon, Truro and Newport Cathedrals and Bath Abbey while he is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors.
Daniel is in demand as an accompanist, repetiteur and coach with professional and semi-professional soloists and choirs. He has been repetiteur performing in W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Cosi Fan Tutte; Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas; and Kurt Weill’s Happy End. As regular accompanist to international baritone soloist Matthew Tilley, he has covered an extensive range of Opera repertoire. In addition, he has worked with many acclaimed musicians including Maxim Calver, Matthew Coleridge, Jess Robinson, Victoria Oruwari, Eleonore Sean Cockerham, Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra, St. Woolos Sinfonia, Yuri Goloubev, Dr. Charles Wiffen, The Bristol String Quartet, Maria Danishvar Brown, Adam’s Apple Jazz Trio, Dr. Edward-Rhys Harry, Jessica Robinson and Elan Catrin Parry.
Recent performances have included appearances at the Assembly Rooms and Pump Room, Bath, Downside and Pershore Abbey and at the Cathedrals of Brecon, Clifton and Truro. Highlights include directing Elizabeth II’s ‘Platinum Jubilee Celebration Service’ at Bath Abbey and conducting Bath’s first professional and modern-day performance of ‘Handel’s Solomon’ at Bath Abbey, ‘A Coronation Concert for the City of Bath.’ He is Artistic director of the Bath Recital Artists’ Trust, a passionate advocate for the next generation of musicians and is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors. |
