The Australian counter-tenor and conductor, Timothy (Tim) Chung, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Education, Voice/Conducting from the University of Sydney (1987-1990); and his Master of Music degree from the University of New South Wales (1998-2000).
Timothy Chung has performed extensively in Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Regional NSW and is regularly engaged as a soloist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Choir (Allegri, Dietrich Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel, W.A. Mozart) under the direction of Paul Dyer, the alto soloist in over 30 cantatas for the Sydneian Bach Choir's Cantata Series Sydney Grammar School: Bach 2010, Sydney University Graduate Choir (J.S. Bach, G.F. Handel, Charpentier), Coro Innominata (Purcell, A. Vivaldi, Charpentier, G.F. Handel, J.S. Bach), Newcastle University Choir (Messiah soloist 2004-8), Joubert Singers (W.A. Mozart, Haydn), St Andrew's Cathedral Choir (Messiah), The Marais Project (National Viol School), Recital with Tommie Andersson (Lute Songs), St Mary's Cathedral Choirs (G.F. Handel, W.A. Mozart), Willoughby Orchestra and Choir (Purcell), Leichhardt Espresso Chorus (Orff), the SBS Youth Orchestra (G.F. Handel, A. Vivaldi), Sydney Sings Messiah (Town Hall), Orange Regional Conservatorium of Music (Messiah), the early music group La Folia, Thoroughbass, Consort 8 and The Renaissance Players.
As a chorister, Timothy Chung has performed in numerous recordings and concerts with Cantillation for ABC Classics and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Pinchgut Opera (G.F. Handel, Purcell), the Song Company (Sydney Entertainment Centre with "The Priests") and ACO Voices (Australian Chamber Orchestra).
Timothy Chung was the countertenor soloist for the 2011 Australian Brandenburg Orchestra's season of "Celestial Vivaldi" in the Sydney and Melbourne Recital Hall and the "Eternal Bach" series in 2012. Other solo engagements in 2012 include Coro Innominata's "National Identities" concert which features baroque music from England, Italy and France, and a recital in Arcadia with organist Peter Kneeshaw, soprano Lindy Montgomery and trumpeter, Leanne Sullivan.
Timothy Chung served as Master of The Chapel Musick at Trinity Grammar School (1991-2011; Conductor of the Chapel Choir, school organist and music teacher); Guest Musical Director of Coro Innominata (August 2011-November 2011); lTeacher of Voice at The King's School in Parramatta (July 2011-December 2011); Music Staff at MLC School in Sydney (November 2011-March 2012; Music/singing teacher); Principal Conductor of Macquarie University Singers at Macquarie University (2010-November 2012); Musical Director of Artes Christi in Sydney (July 2007-October 2013 (6 years 4 months); Musical Director of Sydney University Musical Society (September 2012-October 2014). Since June 2006, he is Artistic Director of Voces Sacrae in Sydney (Professional vocal ensemble for liturgical performances); Since 2009, he isConductor of Radio Community Chest Combined Churches Choir (5th conductor to be appointed in the 75 year history of this popular annual event in the Sydney Town Hall. 400 hundred voices with orchestra and grand organ); since April 2012, he is Head of Music (Performance) at St Aloysius' College in Kirribilli (Conductor of the College Choir and Symphony Orchestra, he is responsible for the extensive performance tuition and ensemble program). |
