La Capella Ducale (Vocal Ensemble)

Founded: 1992 - Cologne (Köln), North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

La Capella Ducale was founded in 1992 by Roland Wilson as a supplement to Musica Fiata, to ensure a stylistic unity in performance of larger works. The ensemble impressive performance has been attested by the critics. The extraordinary homogeneous connection is also highlighted with the instrumental sound. The success of the first CD for Sony with music from Monteverdi's Selva Morale brought invitations to festivals throughout Europe. More recordings inter alia - The Feast of San Rocco - with music by Giovanni Gabrieli, have cemented the reputation of the ensemble. Italian Baroque music, especially the 17th century, remained one of the focal points of the ensemble. In 2008, Musica Fiata and La Capella Ducale performed Monteverdi's 1610 Vespro at the Schwetzingen Festival, and in 2010 they and made guest appearances in Spain and Portugal

In 2010, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi released CD of Vespers music by Antonio Vivaldi, which was praised in the International Record Review November 2009 as: "A dream cast of singers and a world-class period instrument orchestra. This is simply the most successful Vivaldi choral recording I have ever heard "

The second focus of the ensemble is the German church music before J.S. Bach. La Capella Ducale & Musica Fiata enjoyed great success in concert and on CD with music by Thomaskantors before J.S. Bach: the recently discovered Psalmen Davids by Johann Hermann Schein and cantatas by Johann Schelle, as well as cantatas and the oratorio Das jüngste Gericht by Dietrich Buxtehude. To previous recordings of music by Heinrich Schütz, publication of the Symphoniae Sacrae I on Deutsche Harmonia Mundi was added in spring 2010. In 2011 appeared a recording of "Musiche Concertate" madrigals of Monteverdi's contemporary Giovanni Valentini.

The work of Musica Fiata and La Capella Ducale Musica is best described in the words of the Süddeutsche Zeitung: "What has been summoned here in festive splendor of sound, instrumental and vocal virtuosity envisioned very best, why the early music has enjoyed such popularity: You simply makes radiant mood"
