Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern (The Choral Community of Neubeuen) (CGN) was founded in 1967 as a successor of the choral society in the Bavarian village of Neubeuen. Under the direction of their founder, Enoch zu Guttenberg, they have, in a period of but a few years, become a special part of the cultural life of Munich. In many tours and guest perfonnances they have proven their reputation as one of the most distinguished Gennan oratorio choirs. The contrast. Of urbanity and rural origin, of intemational concert experience and an unbroken loyalty to folk music, which is being practiced by various small groups, has been the key factor in the style and appearance of the ensemble until today. The Choral Community of Neubeuen could be called an experiment: it is an attempt to deal with the great choral scores of musical literature without concert routine, it is the idea of intelpfeting, for our time, sacred music from J.S. Bach to Igor Stravinsky working from the origins of the people's religious and folk music. |
