The Austrian soprano, Elisabeth Breuer-Rechberger, received Matura on musical branch of the pin Admont grammar school; then studied singing with Elisabeth Batrice at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, with whom she still works today. In 2008 she sang the leading female role in the world premiere of Romeo +/- Juliet by Jörg Ulrich Krah at the Schauspielhaus Wien.
On the concert podium, Elisabeth Breuer has established herself as a much sought-after interpreter of the works of J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Haydn and W.A. Mozart. Performances have taken her to renowned concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie, Vienna Musikverein, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Cologne Philharmonie, Munich Philharmonie am Gasteig, Berwaldhallen Stockholm, Musiikkitalo in Helsinki, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Milan Auditorium, International Bach Foundation St. Gallen or to renowned festivals such as the Styriarte or the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
Elisabeth Breuer sings under renowned conductors such as Hansjörg Albrecht, Asher Fish, Howard Griffiths, Daniel Harding, Martin Haselböck, Ruben Jais, Ton Koopman, Andrew Manze, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Dennis Russel Davies, Federico Maria Sardelli, or Franz Welser-Möst; and performs with important orchestras such as the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Concentus Musicus Wien, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra or L'Orfeo Barockorchester.
Elisabeth Breuer shows her flexibility and openness as well as her extraordinary ability to touch, often praised by both audience and press, often in special concert formats: for example, she enthused in 2017 at the Grand Advent Concert of the Dresdner Kreuzchor in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium or in 2018 at the Wintermärchen in the Elbphilharmonie alongside Heike Makatsch, Albrecht Mayer and Daniel Hope, where she can be heard again in 2020.
Besides her stylistically confident performance of her core repertoire in concert, Elisabeth Breuer likes to keep her versatility in the field of opera. Her most important roles so far include Norina in Don Pasquale, Musetta in Puccini's La bohème, Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Despina in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Constance in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, Bellezza in Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, Donna Fulvia in La pietra di paragone, Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, Adele in Die Fledermaus or the soprano part in Carmina Burana, which she performed at important opera houses such as the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Cologne Opera, the Neue Oper Wien or the Landestheater Linz, of which she was a member of the ensemble from 2009 to 2016. In January 2011, she sang Clara in the world premiere of the opera Kaspar H. by Balduin Sulzer at the Kammerspiele of the Landestheater Linz. In autumn 2016 she made her debut at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari as Donna Fulvia in La pietra del paragone , at the Teatro San Carlo in The Dwarf by Alexander Zemlinsky and at the Cologne Opera as Christel in The Bird Dealer. In 2019 she sang the role of Rezia with the L'Orfeo Barockorchester at the Donaufestwochen in the opera L'incontro improvviso by Joseph Haydn. Her most recent successes on the opera stage include Elisa in W.A. Mozart's Il Re Pastore at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, or Hyppolithe in Schürmann's Die getreue Alceste at Winter in Schwetzingen under Christina Pluhar. She was able to prove her acting talent in collaborations with renowned directors such as David Pountney, Uwe Eric Laufenberg, Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, Rainer Menniken, Roland Schwab, Anthony Pilavachi, Amon Miyamato or Carlus Padrissa and La Fura dels Baus.
For her ambitious work and her talent she has been awarded several prizes and distinctions. In the 2015-2016 season, visitors to the Linz Music Theatre voted her the audience's favourite, for which she was awarded the Richard Tauber Medal. In 2014 she received the Young Ensemble Prize of the Friends of Linz Music Theatre and in 2013 she was nominated for the Austrian Music Theatre Prize for her performance of Constance in Dialogues des Carmélites.
Recordings, such as the CD with L.v. Beethoven's Egmont released in 2019, which she recorded with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra under Aapo Häkkinen for the Ondine label, or the CD with songs by L.v. Beethoven, recorded with pianist Bernadette Bartos and released on Naxos in 2020, complement her artistic work.
