The Serbian mezzo-soprano/contralto, Katarina Bradić, finished her studies and received a degree in music pedagogy and voice at the Music Academy of Novi Sad in Serbia.
After making her operatic debut in 2002 at the Serbian National Theatre as Mamma Lucia in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, Katarina Bradić performed roles such as Niklausse in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann, Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Flora in La Traviata. In November 2008 she sang the title role in Francesco Pistocchi’s opera Il Narciso in a concert performance in Cologne, conducted by Kai Wessel. Also in fall 2008, she returned to Japan in the role of Maddelena in Verdi’s Rigoletto. She performed the same role at the St Margarethen Festival in summer 2009. She first sprang to international attention during the season 2009-2010 as a member of the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Gent. Her most important assignments there were Medea in Cavalli’s Giasone in a new production, conducted by Federico Maria Sardelli, Olga in a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Margret in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck in a production by Guy Joosten.
In addition to her ensemble engagements at Vlaamse Opera and during the 2010-2011 season at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Katarina Bradić gave a highly successful role debut as Georges Bizet's Carmen at the Klosterneuburg Festival in Austria in July 2010 and could be heard in the title role of Il Narciso in Cologne, conducted by Kai Wessel in May 2011. In September 2011 she made her debut at the Teatro Real Madrid in a new production of Elektra, conducted by Semyon Bychkov. Further engagements during the 2011-2012 season included her company debut with Komische Oper Berlin in the title role of a new production of Carmen and her role debut as Amastre in George Frideric Handel's Xerxes in a new production by Stefan Herheim, also at Komische Oper Berlin. This production also lead her to the Bergen Festival in Norway in a guest performance with Komische Oper Berlin in 2012. In 2012-2013 she gave her company debuts with Theater Erfurt as Carmen and with Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf as Amastre in Xerxes. Other performances included the world premiere of a staged Gustav Mahler program, Mahlermania at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Carmen and Xerxes at Komische Oper Berlin, Carmen in Tallinn and Margret in Wozzeck at Teatro Real Madrid in a production by Christoph Marthaler and conducted by Sylvain Cambreling.
In 2013-2014 season, Katarina Bradić again joined the ensemble of Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she is performing roles such as Emilia in Otello and Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana. Further engagements this season include Mahlermania in Rouen, Rihm's Die Eroberung von Mexiko at Teatro Real de Madrid, Carmen and Xerxes at Berlin Komische Oper as well as Carmen in Erfurt. Performances in 2014-2015 include the title role of a new production of Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia at Deutsche Oper Berlin (November 2014), Amastre in Xerxes at Deutsche Oper am Rhein Dusseldorf and Bradamante in G.F. Handel's Alcina at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (her debut there). She has sung in many other renowned theatres, such as Wiener Staatsoper, Estonian National Opera, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, Graz Opera, to name a few. She has worked with conductors and stage directors such as Semyon Bychkov, Sylvain Cambreling, Donald Runnicles; Guy Joosten, Stefan Herheim and Christoph Marthaler.
Katarina Bradić has a very active oratorio and concert career and could be heard as the Alto Soloist in a tour of W.A. Mozart's Requiem which took place in several cities throughout Russia, in L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in Tbilisi, Georgia, in W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and most recently in J.S. Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium and G. Mahler's Kindertotenlieder and Abschied in Lisbon.
Her repertoire includes the following roles: title roles in Georges Bizet’s Carmen and Pistocchi's Il Narciso, Amastre in George Frideric Handel’s Xerxes, Nicklausse in Offenbach's Les contes d’Hoffmann, 3rd Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Verd'’s Maddalena in Rigoletto and Flora in La traviata, Margret in Alban Berg's Wozzeck, Medea in Cavalli's Giasone, Olga in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Suzuki in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, etc as well as alto parts in oratorios: J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), W.A. Mozart's Requiem, L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, etc.
Concerts in 2014-2015 include her BBC Proms debut in Elektra, the inauguration of Szcezin's new concert hall with L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and her debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus in J.S. Bach's Kantate V-VI. In 2015 she will sing Carmen at Oslo Opera in a new production by Calixto Bieito. Future plans include debuts at the Glyndebourne Festival and at the Berlin Staatsoper.
