Valérie Bonnard (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Switzerland

The Swiss mezzo-soprano, Valérie Bonnard, studied singing at the Conservatoire de Lausanne. She obtained her teaching diploma in 1998 in the class of Pierre-André Blaser. In 2001, she passed the virtuosity exams at the same conservatory. She then perfected her voice with Kathrin Graf in Zürich and Christa Lehnert in Karlsruhe. Alongside his musical studies, she studied the French and German literature and art history at the University of Lausanne, and received her Bachelor of Arts in 1997 and a certificate of competency in teaching secondary in 1999.

Valérie Bonnard has performed under the direction of Michel Corboz Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and the Mass in A major by J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, Donner-Ode by Georg Philipp Telemann, W.A. Mozart's Requiem. She has also been heard, among others, in Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach, Mass in C minor KV 427 by W.A. Mozart, Haydn's Stabat Mater, Mass in D by Dvorak, Requiem für Mignon by Robert Schumann, Schubert's Rosamunde, Oratorio de Noël by Camille Saint-Saëns, in numerous contemporary and other musical works.

From 2006, Valérie Bonnard has participated in various concerts and festivals in Switzerland (Basel, Lucerne, Tonhalle in Zürich, Festival de la Cité à Lausanne) and abroad (France, Portugal, Japan, South America). In France, she has appeared at numerous festivals: Festival de la Chaise-Dieu, Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, Festival des Abbayes de Vendée, Rencontres d’art vocal à Noirlac, Nuits musicales d’Uzès, Festival International de Musiques Sacrées de Fribourg, Fondation Pierre Gianadda à Martigny, Festival de musique ancienne de Lyon, Nuits de la Citadelle à Sisteron, Festival de musique sacrée à Saint-Malo, Heures musicales de Lessay, Rencontres musicales de Vézelay, Festival des Cathédrales de Picardie, La Folle Journée de Nantes, in Pays de la Loire, in Bilbao, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

Valérie Bonnard has sung under the baton of Michel Corboz, Heinz Holliger, Pascal Mayer, Christophe Gesseney, Bernard Héritier, Hervé Klopfenstein, Véronique Carrot, Dominique Tille, André Charlet, Fritz Näf and Gorka Sierra. In recital, she participated at the Schubertiade of Lausanne and 24 hours of music in Romont. At the opera, she played the role of Ramiro in La Finta Giardiniera by W.A. Mozart at the Théâtre Municipal de Lausanne, in the framework of the Atelier lyrique du Conservatoire de Lausanne. In April 2007, she sang Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach in a stage version at the Cathedral of Lausanne, conducted by Christophe Gesseney, directed by Gérard Demierre.

Among her rececnt projects: with Michel Corboz: Petite messe solennelle by G. Rossini at the Folles Journées 2007 in Nantes, Bilbao and Tokyo, Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach in Bourg-en-Bresse in February 2008 and the Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach in summer 2008. She could also be heard in the Mass in C and Requiem by W.A. Mozart in Lutry in November 2008 with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne (OCL) under the baton of Bernard Héritier.
