The American soprano, Lucy Bergin, began formal music instruction at the age of 7, and moved on at the age of 14 to study vocal and flute performance at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School in Boston. A double major (Bachelor of Arts degrees) of music performance and German literature at Wellesley College (2008-2012), she studied privately in the studios of Suzanne Stumpf and Gale Fuller. She studied German Language and Literature at the Middlebury Summer Immersion German School (Class of 2009). She also spent a year living in Vienna, Austria, studying German literature and musicology, focusing on art song and music of 1840-1870 at the Universitaet Wien and performing sacred music (2010-2011).
Lucy Bergin performed as a soloist with the Wellesley College Choir, Chamber Singers, and Chamber Music Ensemble, and directed the Tupelo's, Wellesley's original a cappella group. She performed her premiere operatic role as Mrs. Peachum in Die Drei Groschenoper. As a professional,she has studied voice with teachers Phyllis Hoffman and Pamela Dellal and maintains an active teaching studio of voice, flute, and guitar students. Since September 2012, she has performed as Soprano and Flutist a double recital series entitled "French Connection" with the Room with a Few Series in Westlake, Texas on November 18 and 19. In September 2016, she toured with Canto Armonico 2016 through Northern Germany.
Lucy Bergin has worked as Choir Manager at Music at First Lutheran Church of Boston; Annual Funds Coordinator at Boston Symphony Orchestra (October 2013-April 2015); Choir Coach and Conductor at Cathedral School of Saint Mary (Octobere 2016-February 2017); Faculty member at Armstrong Community Music School (ACMS) (since August 2015). Music Together Teacher at Musical Beginnings (since October 2016); She looks forward to welcoming students into her studio and classes, and is ecstatic about joining the Armstrong community. Since June 2015, she lives in Austin, Texas.
Recent recordings include "Clavieruebung III: The Chorales" with Canto Armonico, and "Still, Still Night" with the Boston Choral Ensemble. Fluent in French and German, Lucy Bergin adores music from Europe and the Caribbean, but she will also look for opportunities to bring Gershwin and jazz into the classroom. |
