Péter Bárány (Counter-tenor)

Born: February 5, 1970 - Hungary

The Hungarian counter-tenor, Péter Bárány, graduated in 1996 from the Weiner Leó Conservatory (Weiner Leó Konzervatórium) in Budapest, where he studied with Éva Lax. He attended master-classes under the direction of Julia Hamari, Michael Chance, Nicholas Clapton, John Toll.

Péter Bárány's repertoire was primarily the Baroque oratorio and opera book, but he was successful in modern music productions, P.M. Davies' Resurrection, or Gergely Vajda's Óriáscsecsemő. He made his stage debut in 2001 is the title role of George Frideric Handel's Orlando with the Budapesti Kamaraopera. In the same year, he won the third prize at the 6th Luis Mariano Singing Competition in Irun, Spain. He has performed as a soloist in France, England and Belgium with successful concert, under the baton of Tamás Vásáry, György Vashegyi and Barthold Kuijken. He has participated in numerous recordings, and is a regular performer in György Vashegyi, German CD-series of Baroque ecclesiastical works.

With the help of the early music performer, Géza Klembala, Péter Bárány was in close contact with the CantuS CorvinuS vocal ensemble. He is a founding member of the six-member vocal ensemble Voces Aequales, which is primarily the 14th-16th centuries church music, with which he can give remarkable performances throughout Europe. He was also a member of Purcell Choir (Director: György Vashegyi)
