Amici Voices was founded in 2012 for a performance of J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245). Born as an opportunity for some of the best young voices in the UK to experience first-hand the world of professional consort work, the singers are united by their drive to continue to create their ‘truly wonderful sound’ (Daily Telegraph).
At home in the repertoire of the German Baroque, Amici Voices regularly perform J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and both Passions (BWV 244, BWV 245) in their characteristic small-voice formation. Their first CD, of music from the time of the Battle of Agincourt, was recorded thanks to a generous grant from the Agincourt 600 Commemorative Fund. Their second CD, recorded in 2017 and releaed in March 2019, is their first CD of J.S. Bach’s music: a programme of Lenten Cantatas and the motet Komm, Jesu komm (BWV 229).
Recent concert highlights include Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri with St James’ Baroque, Johann Hermann Schein’s Israelsbrünnlein at the St Albans International Organ Festival, J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245) with Northampton Philharmonic Choir and B minor Mass (BWV 232) with St Albans Chamber Choir, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle with the Carillon Chamber Choir, performances of motets by J.S. Bach and J.C. Bach in Slovakia, and J.S. Bach’s Jesu, meine Freude (BWV 227) as featured performers at the London Bach Society’s 70th Anniversary Concert at St George’s, Hanover Square.
Amici Voices are extremely grateful for the support they have received from their audiences in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. The town has been a home for the group since its foundation, providing a vital local platform that has allowed its development from a young student group to the world of professional music making. They are particularly indebted to their principal sponsor, Dr Jan Telensky, and to The Williams Church Music Trust. |
