The Academia de Música Antigua de la UNAM (= AMA) was founded in 2017 with the objective of complementing the academic and artistic training at a professional level of young performers of music from the 17th and 18th centuries. This Música UNAM project, the first of its kind created by a higher education institution in Mexico, seeks to integrate into efforts to research and disseminate early music, with emphasis on the viceregal repertoire of Latin America. Among the numerous directors who have collaborated with the AMA, Josep Cabré, Bruno Procopio, Ethel González-Horta, Manfredo Kraemer and Aarón Zapico have performed in recent seasons, to name a few. Various musical trainers specializing in Baroque music are in charge of supervising the learning and technical and stylistic improvement of the scholarship recipients. Eunice Padilla assumed artistic direction starting in 2021. The AMA has been presented at the Sala Nezahualcóyotl, Anfiteatro Simón Bolívar, Casa Universitaria del Libro, Casa del Lago and other UNAM venues, as well as other venues in Mexico. |
