Many works by Paul Dessau are listed in either Prins or OCC as incorporating the BACH motif. There is no explanation how they might relate to the BACH motif. There is noe mention of such use in either the Online Oxford or MGG1. These items seem to cry out for
an explanation.which is not even hinted at in the bios.
I suspect that these were cited by: W. Hacker: 'Erberezeption im Sozialismus: das Tonsymbol B-A-C-H im Musikschaffen der DDR', Beiträge zur Musikwissenschaft, 31 (1989), pp. 266-278 as listed in the bibliography at the bottom of the page. Perhaps this study was still influenced by the political system still in power until the end of the year when the Berlin wall was brought down. If so, then based upon my study many years ago of the politically biased interpretation of the lives and works of Goethe and Schiller, it might be presumed that much which is stated is prone to exaggeration to suit the glories of the political system in power.
