Ernst Haefliger is dead |
Aryeh Oron wrote (March 18, 2007):
The great tenor Ernst Haefliger died yesterday in his hometown Davos, at the age of 88.
He was one of the great Evangelists ever, if not the best of them all.
We are lucky to be able to listen to him through the rich recorded legacy he has left us.

[To Aryeh Oron] Whenever I learn of the death of someone who has lived so long (when his art was a long time ago), I am mostly surprised to learn that they were still alive. Once, c. 1971 I and some friends went to see/hear DFD in recital. DFD cancelled and Haefliger substituted. We left and did not attend the concert. I cannot say why. Obviously it was stupid and that was my only chance of see/hearing him live.
Obviously one cannot declare any singer the greatest evangelist; there are a moderate number on the very top tier. Thank you for informing us. Death comes to all but in the case of an artist who created so much and lived such a long life, all one can really say is: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant"
I shall listen to his Winterreise today. |
