Bilston and Battersea enamel box commemorating J.S. Bach. This is one of five composer commemoratives I now have up for auction. Box is new with certificate of authenticity and presentation case. From a limited edition of 1,000, only 300 pieces were imported to the USA, and those were sold exclusively through Cartier's in New York. This box is number 837 from 1,000.
The other boxes up for auction commemorate Handel, Hadyn, Beethoven and Mozart. This series was one of the nicest and rarest produced by Bilston and Battersea.
This box features an exquisite bust portrait of the composer on the top of the lid; inside of lid has an incredibly detailed ancient view of the city of Leipzig, and the inscription: "Cantor of St. Thomas's School from 1723 until his death, the Leipzig years saw Bach at the zenith of his powers." Sides of box have renditions of Bach compositions and a beautiful pipe organ illustration. |
