Description: |
Presumably second half of the 18th century. Published in 1895 as a photogravure by its then owner Friedrich Edwin Bormann (Meisenbach, Riffarth & Co., Leipzig, Berlin and Munich) with evidence that it was a direct family legacy, and declared an authentic ad-visum portrait on the basis of expert examination. In 1907 the next owner, August Edwin Bormann, connected it not very plausibly with the Hirschberg organist Johann Balthasar Reimann (1702-1749) and his visit to Bach in Leipzig between 1729 and 1740. |
