Johann Gottlob Zeymer [Zeumer] was born to Johann Balthasar Zeumer (curator in the Kleinen Fürstenkollegium). He attended the Thomasschule in Leipzig as an “Externus” beginning in June 29, 1725. He twice made application to be accepted with full status in 1728 and 1729. J.S. Bach reported (May 1729): “not demonstrating abilities in music”. He enrolled at the Thomasschule on June 3, 1729 was accepted and attended the school from 1729 to 1735. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “incompetent, not at all musical”. In July 1734 Rector Gesner attempted to get him excluded “because he demonstrated neither ability nor application toward his studies and to mastering music”. He studied at Universität Leipzig from 1735. Most probably he was not J.S. Bach's pupil. He made unsuccessful application for scoring position (Torschreiberstelle) at Ranstädter Tor in Leipzig (1748) |
