Johann Christoph Zeigermann was born the son of Christoph Zeigermann (Rector in Kölleda). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 24, 1735; studied there from 1735 to 1740; and at Universität Leipzig from 1743. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him.
