Johann Georg Wagner was born the son of Georg Gottfried Wagner (1698-1756; composer and Kantor in Plauen; Thomasschule: 1712-1718/1719). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 11, 1744; studied there from 1744 to 1750; and at Universität Leipzig from 1750. As a Thomaner he was in Choir I from May 17, 1744 (Pentecost) to June 6, 1745 (Pentecost). Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as Kantor in Wurzen from 1751. |
