German violinist and composer, Heinrich Urban, sang as a boy alto in the Königlich Domchor, and later in the Königlich Kapelle. He was a pupil of Hubert Ries and Ferdinand Laub and Richard Hellmann, among others, and lived in Berlin. To complete his education he also spent some time in Paris.
Heinrich Urban wrote the symphony Frühling (Spring), which appeared in print, overtures to Schiller's Fiesco, Scheherazade and Zu einem Fastnachtsspiel, the symphonic poem Der Rattenfänger von Hameln, the opera Konradin, and a violin concerto. He also wrote violin pieces, duets, trios and Lieder. He last lived in Berlin NW, Birkenstraße 53 I, registered as a music teacher in the address book. Among his composition pupils was the famous harpsichordist Wanda Landowska. |
