Christian Adolph Thieme was born the son of Johann Adam Thieme (excise inspector in Teuchern). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 12, 1734; and studied there from 1734 to 1735. He died as an alumnus. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. His younger brother, Carl August Thieme (1721-1795), was also a Thomaner (1735-1745).
