Andreas Stollman (Kantor, Pastor, Bach's Pupil?)

Born: c1720 - Hamlesch, Transylvania (today: Romania)
Died: September 25, 1771 - Kerz, Transylvania

Andreas Stollmann stayed in Germany from around 1740 to 1748. He Studied at Universität Wittenberg (enrolled on June 21, 1745). He was probably a pupil of J.S. Bach. From 1748 he served as Stadtkantor (city Kantor) Kantor in Hermannstadt / Sibiu; from 1756 as Pastor in Kerz (Transylvania).

In a Lexikon article on Andreas Stollmann, Karl Teutsch (1993) stated that he was studying at the Universität Leipzig from 1740 to 1748 and continued: "Der Überlieferung nach soll er ein Schüler von J. S. Bach gewesen sein, was jedoch dokumentarisch nicht belegt ist " (According to tradition, he was supposed to be a pupil of J.S. Bach, which is not documented, however). This classification as J.S. Bach's pupil was transferred to MGG including the reservation. What that tradition is based on could not be determined. In an essay on the history of music in Transylvania by Samuel Friedrich Stöck (see Peter Schimert: A-33) A. Stollmann is not mentioned as a a pupil of J.S. Bach. A. Stollmann's stay in Leipzig cannot be proven from the university register. The fact that his first name was often incorrectly specified as Michael could be entered with the entry "Mich. Sillmann ”from Hermannstadt in the Universität Leipzig register dated June 1, 1772.
