Johann Augustin Stein (Schoolmaster, Kantor, Bach's Pupil) |
Born: December 4, 1712 - Taucha, Saxony, Germany
Died: May 8, 1757 - Taucha, Saxony, Germany |
Johann Augustin Stein was born to Augustin Stein (Kantor in Taucha). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on November 2, 1726; studied there from 1726 to 1731; and at Universität Leipzig from 1731 (Major: theology). Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “usable for 1st Choir (figural music)”. After his studies, he was interim schoolmaster in Schönefeld from 1738, and Kantor substitute in Taucha from 1748. |
