Georg Rhau [Rhaw, Rauw] was Kantor at the Thomasschule in Leipzig till 1520, after which he settled in Eisleben as school-master.
Subsequently Georg Rhau settled in Wittenberg, where he became a printer, issuing books both in ordinary typography (including many first editions of Luther's writing) and in musical notes, including his own works: Enchiridion musices ex vaiis musicorum libris, etc. (1518, often reprinted), Enchiridion musicae mensuralis (1520), etc. He also brought out many collections of musical works. Winterfeld attributed some chorales to him. |
