Johann David Pezoldt [Petzoldt, Pezold] was born to a merchant in Lengenfeld. He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 16, 1722; and studied there from 1722 to 1731. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (August 23, 1730): “usable for 1st Choir (figural music)” Prefect.
