Samuel Gotthelf Pellio was born the son of Johann Christoph Dietze (registrar). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 3, 1750; and studied there from 1750 to 1756. He died as an alumnus. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. He was the last pupil who enrolled at the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure.
