The distinguished American composer, teacher, pianist and musician, Blythe Owen, began her professional career in 1919 as a piano teacher at Walla Walla College. This marked the beginning of 60 years of service to the Seventh-day Adventist church. In 1941 she earned her bachelors degree in music from Chicago Musical College, her masters in 1942, and a doctorate from Eastman School of Music in 1953.
Blythe Owen's compositions gained numerous national and international awards, and she has been included in several editions of Who's Who. Scores of her students are accomplished artists. Some of her students are Sheldon Harnack, writer of lyrics for Fiddler on the Roof, Leonard Richter, chairman of the piano department at Walla Walla College, Patty Clarke voted best woman-entertainer in Chicago, and James Hanson of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. |
