Johann Gottlieb Nützer was born the son of Johann Jacob Nützer (Pastor in Bitterfeld). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 29, 1737; studied there from 1737 to 1745; and at Universität Leipzig from 1745. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he made unsuccessful application for the rectorate in Brehna. His elder brother, Johann Gottfried Nützer (1709-1780), was also Thomaner (1724-1731), as well as J.S. Bach's copyists, organist, and school teacher. |
