Johann Gottlieb Mesenberger enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 11, 1714; and studied there from 1714 to 1723. He died as an alumne on April 5, 1723. J.S. Bach was appointed as Thomaskantor on May 5, 1714, and transfered to Leipzig on May 22, 1714. Therefore, although Johann Gottlieb Mesenberger is listed No. 1 in Richter list from 1907, he was not actually J.S. Bach's pupil.
