Adam Ephraim Mahn was born to Adam Mahn (Pastor in Paupitzsch). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 20, 1718; and studied there from 1718 to 1726; and at Universität Leipzig from 1726. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. He got as a married as a theology student in Beckwitz (September 26, 1746).
