Friedrich Wilhelm Ludewig was born to Wilhelm Ludewig (tailor in Leipzig). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 13, 1730; studied there from 1730 to 1736, since September 11, 1723 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig in 1736. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (May 1729): “ not demonstrating abilities in music”. After his studies, he workd in Leipzig as excise taker. |
