Johann Gottfried Kuhnau (Bach's Pupil?) |
Born: c1705 - Johanngeorgenstadt, Saxony, Germany
Died (buried): November 6, 1719 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany |
Johann Gottfried Kuhnau was born the son of Gottfried Kuhnau (Kantor in Johanngeorgenstadt)?. He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 27, 1719. According to Richter's article in Bach-Jahrbuch 1907, he studied there from 1719 to 1725. However, recent findings show that he died as an alumnus on November 6, 1719, only half a year after his enrollement and nearly 4 years before J.S. Bach's began his tenure as Thomaskantor. That means he was not actually J.S. Bach's pupil
