Johann Carl Krebs was born the youngest son of Johann Tobias Krebs (1690-1762; composer and organist in Buttstädt). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 16, 1740; studied there from 1740 to 1747; and at Universität Leipzig from 1747. As Thomaner he was in Choir II from May 17, 1744 (Pentecost) to June 6, 1745 (Pentecost). Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, and in 1750 was appointed in 1750 Rector (headmaster) and Kantor at the village school in Buttstädt, where he remained until his death. When, in the 1750's, his father became blind, Johann Carl assisted him with his duties as town organist.dt from 1750. |
