Johann Andreas Köpping (Pastor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: February 1714 - Großbothen, Saxony, Germany
Died: 1797 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

Johann Andreas Köpping was born to Martin Köpping (schoolmaster in Großbothen). He made his first application to become a Thomaner in 1729; enrolled at the Thomaschule on May 7, 1733; and studied there from 1733 to 1736. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as Baccalaureus and Magister (1742), Deacon (1746) and Lutheran Pastor (1751) in Zschaitz, Saxony. His elder brothers were also Thomaners: Gottlieb Köpping (1701-1763) in 1715-1724; Johann Christian Köpping (1704-1772) in 1718-1726.
