Johann Gottfried Kiesslich [Kießlich] was born the son of Johann Kießlich (Mayor of Brandis). He studied at Schools in Brandis and Naunhof; enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 4, 1716; studied there from 1716 to 1723; at Universität Leipzig from 1719; and at Universität Wittenberg from 1723. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as Kantor from 1730 and Rector from 1740 in Dahme.
