Johann Michael Jenicke was born to Gottfried Jenicke in Großkorbetha. His brothers were Johann Gottfried Samuel Jenicke (b 1706) and Samuel Jenicke. He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 12, 1727; studied there from 1727 to 1733?; and at Universität Leipzig from 1726. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him.
