The English composer and music publisher, Maurice Jacobson, studied piano at the Modern School of Music from 1913 to 1916, and composition with Stanford and Gustav Holst at the Royal College of Music in London.
In 1923 Maurice Jacobson joined the music publishing form of J. Curwen & Sons as a music reader. In 1933, was made its director and later its chairman (1950-1972). In 1971 he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
Maurice Jacobson composed a ballet, David (1935); also the cantatas The Lady of Shalott (1940) and The Hound of Heaven (1953), many short instrumental pieces, chamber music, and songs. |
