Samuel Gotthelf Hoffmann was born the son of Samuel Gottlieb Hoffmann (Pastor in Trages). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on November 9, 1747; studied there from 1747 to 1754; and at Universität Leipzig from 1754. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. Hae obtained his Magister degree in Wittenberg in 1760; and his ordination in Leipzig in Leipzig. After his studies, he worked as Pastor in Nenkersdorf from 1763. |
