Born: December 22, 1714 - Geringswalde, Saxony, Germany
Died: 1785 - Lunzenau, Saxony, Germany |
Johann Heinrich Hillmeyer was born to Martin Hillmeyer (miller in Geringswalde). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 16, 1729; and studied there from 1729 to 1733. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (1730): “not yet ready to be used in the 1st choir (figural music)”. After his studies, he served as Kantor and organist in Lunzenau, Saxony from 1742 until his death in 1785. |
