Christan Gottfried Heße (Bach's Pupil)

Born: December 19, 1710 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
Died: December 8, 1751 - Großurleben, Thuringia, Germany

Christian Gottfried Heße [Hess] was born to Stephan Hesse (master tailor). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 4, 1726; and studied there from 1726 to 1733; and at Universität Leipzig in 1733. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (1730):“not yet ready to be used in the 1st choir (figural music)”. After his studies, he worked as Pastor in Groß- und Kleinurleben, Thuringia from 1747 until his death in 1751.
