Johann Gottlob Hertel [Joannes Gottlob Hertelius; Johannes Gottlob Hertelius; Johannes Gottlob Hertel] enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 18, 1720; studied there from 1720 to 1730; and at Universität Leipzig from 1725, obtaining his Baccalaureus and Magister degrees in 1734. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. Together with Johann Christoph Pohl he published Dissertationem de hominibvs post mortem sangvisvgis, vvlgo sic dictis Vampyren (1735).
