Johann Samuel Hensel enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 4, 1716; studied there from 1716 to 1724; and at Universität Leipzig from 1721. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as sexton at the Zucht- und Waisenhaus St. Georg (breeding and orphanage St. Georg) in Leipzig from 1728; school owner in Leipzig from 1735, at Universität Wittenberg from 1736.
