Christian Gotthold Helbig was born the son of Johann Friedrich Helbig (organist in Döbeln). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 20, 1746; studied there from 1746 to 1754; and at Universität Leipzig from 1759. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. |
